The Compass Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic (Update)
As cases of COVID-19 increase in Peel, The Compass has significantly altered the way we operate. The measures outlined below will be in place temporarily, effective Monday, March 16, 2020 for a period of TWO months, to May 16, 2020:
1) All programs are be suspended. This includes: ESL, Men’s Group, Women’s Group, Film & Fellowship, Refresh, Knitting Group, haircuts, Nursing clinic, Bloom outreach, SHIP resource clinic, and tax preparation clinics.
2) Meal programs are be suspended. This includes the Tuesday lunch and Thursday breakfast. Hospitality services will be limited to Market days, and will be strictly on a “to go” basis. The Easter Dinner scheduled for April 1, 2020 will also be cancelled.
3) The Market has shifted to a “hamper model”.
Options for Existing Clients You have the option to order ahead and customize your hamper. As always, you can visit for food once a week (M, W or F).
Options for New Clients You are eligible for our services if you live in one of the following postal code areas: L5E, L5G, L5H or L5J. Begin by booking an arrival time, Email email@example.com, message us on Facebook, or call 905-274-9309. After you book your appointment please order your customer hamper by visiting www.thecompass.ca or calling 905-274-9309.
For a faster, easier pickup, bring your confirmation code with you to pick up. The order form resets each Friday night with items for the following week. Inventory varies from day to day and we will do our very best to fill your order.
We have a new process in place to better maintain social distancing. When you arrive at The Compass, give your name to the volunteer at the front door then wait outside. When your name is called, step to the table just inside the door to the left, to pick up your bags.
4) Market schedule will be expanded for food distribution.
Monday 12pm-7:30pm, Wednesday & Friday 9:30am-5pm
We have all been encouraged to practise safe “social distancing”, so we must space out how clients arrive. Prepared bags of food will be ready to go for all clients as they arrive at The Compass. Hospitality services will not be provided, but only on a “to go” basis if available. Clients will arrive, check-in with the Greeter outside proceed to the exit door and obtain their pre-selected or standard food bags and leave. Intake updates will be suspended, except for clients new to The Compass. Clients are STRONGLY encouraged to make arrival times to obtain their food.
We will be revisiting these measures throughout this initial suspension period and will make changes as required to better meet the needs of our clients, consistent with our guiding principles set out above.
