THE COMPASS RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC

It’s been more than 2 years since Covid-19 began and people are still being hospitalized because of it. Many people have been double-vaccinated and received a booster(s) by now, or chosen not to vaccinate at all. Who would have thought after all this time the world would be where it is today?

As The Compass altered how we conducted ourselves to be able to support our clients experiencing homelessness and food insecurity throughout the pandemic, we have re-evaluated again and made the following decisions on how to conduct our business safely and in line with the times. 

1) The Compass is a mask-friendly environment. What does this mean? It means we encourage everyone to wear masks, but we don’t mandate it. If you have any Covid symptoms, we trust you will stay away. If you are a client and need food, call us and we’ll take the name of the person you designate to pick up food for you this time.  

2) All volunteers must be double-vaccinated. We will continue to ask for proof of vaccination from all new volunteers as we did for our 250+ current volunteers. Our staff is double-vaccinated and have received boosters.  

3) The Market is open for both order ahead with customization of your order for pick up, and you can also choose to shop in-person. Whichever option you choose, we strongly encourage you to make an appointment. 

The Compass makes food available so clients can obtain food once a week (M, W or F).

Options for New Clients You are eligible for our services if you live in one of the following postal code areas: L5E, L5G, L5H or L5J. You can start the registration process by filling in this form (or calling 905-274-9309 if you can’t use the online form). If you are in urgent need of food you can also drop by and pick up a hamper (Monday 12-7:30 pm, Wednesday / Friday 10 am-4:30 pm) and fill in a paper form at The Compass. You can also pre-order your hamper by visiting www.thecompass.ca or calling 905-274-9309.

The order form resets each Thursday night with items for the following week. Inventory varies from week to week and we will do our very best to fill your order. 

Hospitality Services and Program Start-Ups

Hospitality services are now being provided by our newly opened and licensed kitchen for light lunches and snacks with coffee and other drinks during market hours. Some of our programs have begun again at The Compass with more to follow shortly.

The Compass will continue to follow and revisit these measures periodically and will make changes as required to better meet the needs of our clients, consistent with our guiding principles set out above.
