It’s time to put on your fundraising hats! From September 13th to 19th 2020, we’re looking forward to one of The Compass’s signature fundraising events; Walk the Walk for The Compass. This year we have a bit of a twist though, as we adapt to a more virtual way to walk our walks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fundraising tactics may change a little considering the need for social distance, but there are still many ways to raise money, especially with the help of our online connections.
For our online fundraising, we use the website CanadaHelps.org. Here you can easily donate, create or join a team, or begin your own fundraising. One great perk of fundraising online is that it lets you set fundraising goals and track your progress digitally. Having a specific goal is very motivating, both for yourself and everyone putting in efforts to support you. All you need to do is share the page’s URL so people know where to donate.
One of the best ways to get donations is by using your pre-existing social media networks. Do you have a lot of connections on Facebook or Twitter? How about a community on an online forum? Sharing fundraisers to these websites is a brilliant way to make sure you meet your goals. With our Walk campaign at CanadaHelps.org, all you need to do is copy the link and share it. Be it social media, email or blog post, share your link wherever you think it will be noticed. On CanadaHelps.org, there are share buttons under the donation button, so it’s easy to spread the word. There is even an email template so you can reach the friends and family who have a smaller online presence.
Next, promote the Walk and The Compass’s mission! People are much more likely to give to a cause they feel strongly for, and what better way to get them on our side than by showing your enthusiasm? Tell everyone about your Walk, show off your Compass T-shirt and share your fundraising goals. Explaining what you’re raising money for in even just a few sentences will allow people to understand and connect with our cause. Use your platform to encourage your followers to get involved!
Once you’ve set up this system, make sure it’s seen by your followers by putting it on a prominent page on your feeds. Many social media websites have the option to pin posts to the top of your profile, a very useful tool to get as many eyes as you can. If you run a website, add a banner to the top to invite visitors to donate. This way, potential donors will notice that you’re fundraising and be able to find all the important information you share about it.
We look forward to seeing what everybody comes up with. Happy fundraising everyone, and have an excellent summer.
You can sign up for the Walk and register to fundraise online or download a traditional fundraising form. We’d love to see you on our social network. Use #WalkTheWalk2020 and tag us @CompassFoodBank on Twitter.
