Do you enjoy working in a friendly, interactive atmosphere that offers help and hope to our community? The Compass is in immediate need of volunteers for all our shifts. You can sign up as you go or volunteer on a regular schedule; whatever works best for you.
Volunteer Shoppers work one-on-one with our clients as they shop in the Market Food Bank. Hospitality volunteers prepare the snack trays, serve coffee and tea as well as keeping the dishes, kitchen and coffee shop area clean.
The shifts are:
Mon 2:30-5:30 pm / 5:15-8:30 pm
Wednesday 11:30 am – 2:30 pm / 2:15-5:30 pm
Friday 11:30 am – 2:30 pm / 2:15-5:30 pm

You probably remember the Men’s Group trip to Ottawa where MP Sven Spengemann presented their petition to Parliament on 18th Nov 2016. They received a response that we wanted to share.
Here’s the Petition
And here’s the response
Congratulations to the Men’s group and the lead of this activity Richard Antonio for their dedicated effort to champion ongoing poverty relief initiatives and programs. Richard is now the Chair the Peel Povery Action Group as a result of his action and interest in this topic. We expect more good things to flow from this group effort, and certainly acknowledge the increase in awareness among volunteers and clients at The Compass.
You asked and we listened. Wednesday hours are being extended. We will now open 2 hours earlier each Wednesday and will be open from 12 – 5 pm (instead of 2 – 5 pm). This means less wait times and more flexibility for when you come.
Instead of one shift for volunteers we will split the shift into two to match the Friday shifts. This means more volunteers are needed – if you have been thinking about volunteering this would be a great time to download an application!
The new hours are effective February 22, 2017.
