Become a Member on the Board of Directors

Founded in 2002 by six churches in Mississauga, The Compass provides weekly food access, community meals, and wraparound support services to vulnerable residents. Now supported by 15 churches, we served over 74,000 meals in 2024 and distribute nearly 1 million pounds of food annually to 800 families weekly. We partner with other organizations to offer help with housing, employment, income supports, health care, and addiction recovery. With 10 staff and over 400 volunteers, we are a proud member of Food Banks Mississauga and serve the area south of the QEW between Oakville and Toronto.

Board of Directors Role
The Board (8–10 members) governs and guides The Compass. We seek up to three new Directors to be confirmed at our April 2026 AGM.

Responsibilities Include:

• Fiduciary Duties: Act in good faith and in the best interests of The Compass.
• Accountability: Consider all stakeholders fairly.
• Christian Values: Uphold values of compassion and service.
• Education: Learn about Compass operations and governance.
• Teamwork: Collaborate respectfully with fellow Board members and staff.
• Time Commitment: Attend ~9 Board meetings/year and serve on at least one committee (Finance, Governance, Recruitment), each meeting 6–8 times/year.
• Governance Contribution: Prepare for and actively participate in meetings.
• Continuous Improvement: Engage in Board evaluations and development.
